Triumph TR4 FIA (Race/Fast Road)

On offer here is a superb and very versatile TR4 that offers access to some of the best historic motorsport events along with fast road use. This highly successful FIA period ‘F’ (1963-65) 1963 TR4 comes with valid papers until December 2028 and has proved very effective at the Spa 6hrs on four occasions placing 38th overall in 2021. With FIA accredited alloy outer panels and a genuine 196bhp, it’s a very competitive FIA TR4 capable of racing the best in the Historic Sports Car Club (Historic Road Sports), GT and Sports Car Cup and eligible for Masters Gentleman Drivers and, of course, the Spa 6 hours. There are a multitude of other events where this lovely TR would be welcome.

Once our vendor acquired the TR from a Director of TR Enterprises in 2016, it was given a fresh coat of metallic BRG and gone through prior to going racing. He has engineered and kept the car in top condition resulting in a smart, turn-key racer that can be run on a realistic budget. It benefits from a recent engine refresh (8-hours running time since) including a new steel crank, new pistons and rods and the gearbox is a new Quaife straight-cut, four-speed with only five-hours running time.  It has electronic ignition and fuel is fed to twin 48DCO Webers by two Facet pumps from the 140-litre aluminium fuel tank which crucially allows just one stop at Spa. The BDA rear axle, fitted with a limited-slip differential, allows geometry changes and anti-roll bars are fitted, front and rear. The hubs are uprated and the braking system is dual-circuit with copper-nickel lines, all Aeroquipped with stainless-steel braiding, Blue Hawk pads and Mintex rear shoes. The windscreen is heated which makes all the difference at a rainy Spa and the side windows appear to be Perspex. All safety equipment is in date (six-point harness, plumbed-in and hand-held fire extinguishers, roll-cage) except for the race seat that expired at the end of 2023 and will need replacing.

This desirable TR racer looks very much the part in a great colour with matching hard top and sitting on a set of silver Minilites shod with 205/70R15 Avon radials. The spotlight bar with six spotlights is easily removable for daylight events.  The car is UK-registered with a current V5C and offers remarkable versatility with the ability to impress for six hours at Spa one weekend, sparkle at Shelsley the next, fit in a Welsh club rally the week after and pop to the pub on a Wednesday evening, all at a very approachable guide price.
